weight loss tips

Are you desperate to lose weight but an expert at giving yourself "valid" excuses. I have been there and I know how difficult it can be.

As a personal trainer I have heard a lot of excuses when it comes to starting your health kick. And as a Mum I know how hard it can be to hurdle those excuses, but with some practice and discipline it is possible to get healthy even with a myriad of excuses.

Here are 5 excuses reasons we give ourselves for neglecting our health. Sound familiar?

1. TIME

Oh that old chestnut. Time.

I hate to burst your bubble, but we are ALL time poor.

All of us.

You are not alone in having a job or jobs, a demanding family, constant housework, social lives and Netflix series to watch! Being fit and healthy is a priority you have to make and like anything that is a priority, you have to find the time as if the quality of your life depended on it, because it actually does.

Planning meals and incorporating daily exercise is not as difficult as you might think. This is quite simply not a valid excuse.

We all are given the same 24 hours in a day. How you spend them is up to you.A simple daily schedule , like this one, or a diary will help you account for where you are spending, and wasting your time. Exercise doesn’t have to involve a lengthy session and planning and cooking healthy food is simpler than you thought.

2. CASH

Eating healthy and exercising is as expensive or affordable as you make it. You may even find yourself spending less!

Fitness doesn’t need to involve an expensive membership at a posh, or even “not posh” gym, and if you are telling yourself that it is you really need to stop.

For the purposes of general health you have a superb tool set at your fingertips, your own body weight or even baby! Depending on your fitness level and weight, of course, using your body weight is great for squats, sit-ups, dips, inner thigh lifts, bum lifts, and lunges to name just a few. These few exercises when coupled with the appropriate stretching can prove invaluable to most, me included.

If you are unfamiliar with these exercises, youtube can provide some great FREE tips from personal trainers to help you with your technique or failing that visit the library and loan some fitness DVDs.

Now is the best, and believe it or not, easiest time to get fit.

The internet is literally saturated with useful information and tips on how to cram exercise into your daily life for FREE, and Project Mamma of course. Having a child is probably the best motivation you will ever have, take advantage of this perfect time.Eating healthy may seem expensive but it really doesn't have to be. Think outside the box if you are on a budget.

Harris Farm, have a great range unusually shaped fruit and vegetables at a lower price and other supermarkets, including Coles are starting to follow and see the value from a profitability and sustainability point of view. Become thrifty with your food shop, buy when in season or on sale.

For weight loss great staples are potatoes, baked in the oven and topped with a low fat, high protein food such as tuna or cottage cheese or egg. The humble potato should never be overlooked.

3. ABILITY

We all lack ability in certain areas. If we didn't we wouldn’t try to improve. Your ability is not in question when you enter a Zumba class or go for a jog. It is hard to begin a new workout, but bite that fear and use it to power you into improving your ability.

Remove the thoughts of self doubt and think about what you are doing and listening to the instruction. Getting there is the focus and just trying. You can do it. And once you get there your ability and confidence will grow...and grow.

4. FATIGUE

We are all so tired, it is exhausting just thinking about it. But in order to get to your fitter self you must get over it (within reason of course)

My children never slept through the night, and still don’t. It is not something I like to admit, I feel I have failed some way, but it is the truth. When they were tiny, getting out and exercising meant I was able to hand my child over to my husband or Mother or even put them in the bouncer for 15 minutes to focus on me, just me!

The early days of Motherhood were very hard for me as they are for many of us, but I had to find a focus other than how exhausted and brain dead I felt. Getting healthy was a focus I enjoyed and got me to get who lost I felt and how I was genuinely struggling. Just get yourself up and start and you won't regret it.

5. Confidence

This is a huge one and I totally get it. Stepping onto a treadmill or into the pool can be very daunting, I have been there, especially in the pool. But don’t allow yourself to think about how overwhelmed or fearful you may feel, I know it is difficult. Think about the sense of achievement you are going to feel after you have completed what you set out to do.

Focus on what you want and let that drive you. And just remember, that in a months time, once you have strengthened your courage in that area, the fear will feel minimal maybe even negligible, and you will conquer it. I promise you.
